The demand for odour and VOC pollution control systems that provide clean air is growing. Biotechnology offers one of the most economical and environmentally friendly methods for controlling odours and solvent emission pollution. Following the cooperation for Research and Development in this area, the University of Valencia and Pure air solution agreed to continue their cooperation.

Since 2006 a team of researchers from both organisations did  research on biotechnological methods for solvent emission reduction. The research programm was ranging from laboratory stage to pilot evaluation to full-scale process implementation. In addition to the basic microbiology and engineering, the design, modeling, and control of the Vocus bioreactor has been studied in detail. Topics for future cooperation now include the application of bioprocesses in various industrial sectors in which thermal oxidisers are commonly used for the treatment of VOC's .
